Just like vulvas, each oyster is one of a kind. They are hand-sculpted in porcelain and each varies in size, shape, and color. The inspiration behind this body of work is in response to the expectations that society enforces on women, particularly in the digital era. There is an immense amount of pressure placed on women to look a certain way, from our hair to our nails, and yes, even our vulvas.
The fact that there is even a surgery women can get to alter the appearance of their vulvas to make them appear more "perfect" implies they are imperfect naturally. This body of work is a celebration of women and our bodies, each one different, beautiful, and perfect just the way they are.
